THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN THE CONTEXT OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Artificial intelligence (AI) today has great potential to accelerate scientific research, increase productivity, and help formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and analyze big data. At the same time, scientists note that there are risks of reducing the depth of understanding of the problem, excessive focus on automating algorithms, and ethical issues in the presentation of scientific results (plagiarism, ownership of results, reliability). Therefore, the effective use of AI requires not only interdisciplinary cooperation and a deep understanding of the methodology but also the development of policies and standards for the responsible use of AI in scientific research. The article aims to analyze the existing approaches to regulating the use of AI in scientific journals, with the example of the field of education. The article solves the following tasks: (1) analysis of the AI use policies of journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science as leaders in scientific thought and editorial policy; (2) review of the AI use practices of Ukrainian scientific publications in the field of education; (3) comparative analysis of the journals' approaches to the AI use policy, their advantages and disadvantages; (4) formulation of recommendations for professional publications in Ukraine on the editorial policy of AI use, which will take into account the balance between innovation and academic ethics. Based on the results of the analysis, the authors propose a draft editorial policy on the use of AI for Ukrainian scientific journals in the field of education, which describes responsibility for authorship, acceptable practices of using AI, requirements for disclosure of AI use, and responsibility and good practices of scientific work. It is substantiated that the editorial policy should include mechanisms for verifying integrity, in particular by analyzing scientific texts for signs of machine generation, familiarizing authors with the principles of ethical use of AI, and implementing academic ethics standards in connection with new technological challenges. It is recommended to improve the skills of editors and reviewers in recognizing texts created using AI, as well as mastering the principles of ethical evaluation of such manuscripts.
