MEDIA TOOL AS A TOOL FOR THE FORMATION OF MEDIA LITERACY OF STUDENTS IN THE LESSONS OF UKRAINIAN LITERATURE IN THE 5th – 6th CLASSES

The article discusses the media as one of the main tools for developing media literacy among students 5-6 grades. The author emphasizes its key role in the media education system and educational institutions, particularly in Ukrainian literature lessons. Following methodologists, I. Gurinenko, L. Petryk, and O. Semenoh, the meaning of the concepts of "media tool," "media technology," and "modern teacher of literature" is revealed. The research of media classifications by O. Besova, I. Dychkivska, H. Onkovych, O. Parfenova, and L. Petryk is analyzed. Attention is focused on those relevant to the work of language teachers in the Ukrainian literature class in grades 5-6 in forming students' media literacy. The functions of media in the educational process are listed. The ways of their application to the Ukrainian literature lesson and all its stages for forming competencies provided by the Concept of the New Ukrainian School are determined. The article emphasizes the prospects of their combination and use as elements of media technologies. The practicality of the formation of a media-literate student is also stressed based on research by V. Derenko, O. Kalna, L. Kozak, D. Kozlitina, N. Lashuk, H. Onkovych, P. Savarin, N. Cherepovska, L. Shulga. The need to rethink the role of the modern teacher and their character traits, moral and ethical education, professional skills, and abilities in the context of education of the XXI century and its challenges is substantiated. The versatility of the teaching profession in educational activities is determined. The key place of preparation of a philologist teacher for the lesson, their competence in working with information, its sources, technical means, multimedia, and the Internet is emphasized. It is proved that the main task of the educational process in grades 5-6 of a secondary education institution today is the purposeful formation and development of a media-cultural personality with the help of media and media technologies.
