Abstract

The article presents the results of a study on the effectiveness of shooting horting training in developing technical proficiency in weapon handling among children and adolescents. Shooting horting is positioned as a national applied training system that integrates physical, tactical, and technical components aimed at developing self-defense skills and safe firearm handling. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of systematic shooting horting training on the level of technical proficiency in handling weapons, particularly pistols, Kalashnikov rifles, and pump-action shotguns. The study involved 30 participants aged 10 to 17 who underwent a year-long training course based on an original educational program at the Zaporizhzhia branch of the National Federation of Shooting Horting of Ukraine. The research design included performance of control exercises at the beginning and end of the academic period. Standardized timed disassembly and assembly exercises served as measurement tools, with precise time tracking. The results showed statistically significant improvements in all three exercises. The average completion time for the pistol exercise decreased from 46,05 s to 34,82 s, for the Kalashnikov rifle from 49,31 s to 39,98 s, and for the pump-action shotgun from 40,19 s to 24,92 s. Statistical analysis, including the use of the Wilcoxon test, confirmed the significance of these changes (p < 0.01). The findings indicate the effectiveness of the shooting horting educational program in developing accuracy, technical skills, motor coordination, and improved safety in weapon handling. The greatest improvement was observed in the pump-action shotgun exercise, likely due to the complexity of its design and the demand for high motor accuracy. Given the successful results across all age groups, the program proves to be universal and adaptable to the needs of children and adolescents. The practical value of the study lies in its potential application in integrating shooting horting into extracurricular education, particularly within military-patriotic training initiatives.
