Abstract

The article examines the importance of developing educational autonomy in senior school students as part of the strategy for implementing a competency-based approach in modern education. The relevance of the study is driven by the need to prepare students for independent decision-making, managing their own learning, and social development in the context of dynamic changes characteristic of modern society. Educational autonomy is a key element in the formation of general education and professional competencies as it promotes the development of essential skills, such as the ability for independent learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective adaptation to a constantly changing social environment. The paper provides an overview of the main conceptual approaches to educational autonomy and argues its role within the context of competency-based education, emphasizing the importance of the connection between student autonomy and their ability to self-regulate and self-organize. Special attention is given to defining the impact of educational autonomy on the development of student competencies, which are integral to their successful social and professional growth.

The study explores methods and strategies that contribute to the development of educational autonomy in senior schools and analyzes the challenges and barriers hindering the effective implementation of autonomy in the learning process. The author suggests ways to overcome these difficulties by organizing new forms of educational activities that provide students with greater freedom of choice while simultaneously fostering the development of self-regulation and the organization of their own learning.

The article also addresses methods of stimulating student activity and strengthening the interaction between students and teachers, which positively affects the development of autonomy and key competencies. The study offers valuable recommendations for teachers, methodologists, researchers, and other professionals involved in the development of modern education, as well as for specialists in the field of pedagogical innovations. The findings of the study can be used to improve teaching practices and reform the senior school system, orienting it towards the development of a competency-based approach and the individualization of learning.
