INCREASING MOTIVATION TO STUDY BY MEANS OF MUSEUM PEDAGOGY (on the example of the V.G. Bondarchuk Memorial and Mineralogical Museum at the Denisiv Lyceum)

Abstract

The article reveals one of the important aspects of modern school practice - the need to form a high level of motivation to study. Attention is focused on the possibilities of the educational environment in the process of organization and functioning of the local history museum in the institution of general secondary education. The role of museum education, which provides an opportunity to form general and natural competences during the collection, formation and presentation of collections, and to reveal the creative potential of education seekers during research works, excursions and presentations of their work, is substantiated.

The priority directions of the work of the Memorial Mineralogical Museum named after Academician V.G. Bondarchuk have been determined. Two groups work on the basis of the museum: Young tour guides and Tourist and local history group. The main types of work of tour guides are the collection of biographical material about a famous countryman, the study of his scientific heritage, theoretical training on classes of minerals and groups of rocks, participation in the development of excursions, quests, quizzes and the presentation of these materials to museum visitors, annual participation in the competition of young tour guides. Young local historians comprehensively research the nature of their native village, develop tourist routes, engage in research work, participate in tourist and local history competitions, and are active pupils of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

A survey was conducted with tour guides and visitors to the museum and it was found that museum pedagogy is an effective means of forming local knowledge competences: students of education form a responsible attitude towards the nature of their native region, are ready to solve problems of the state of the environment, and generate ideas about the use of natural resources. Applying a non-traditional approach to education, museum pedagogy promotes the self-realization of each child, reveals the creative potential of Gurtkiv residents during research of the mineralogical collection, creation of excursions and quests, participation in various contests and competitions, conducting excursions. Our own empirical experience has proven that the educational environment of the museum creates ideal conditions for self-expression and creative development of students, and the regional aspect is a powerful tool for increasing motivation to study.
