PROFESSIONAL SELF-DEVELOPMENT OF THE PERSONALITY OF A MEDICAL COLLEGE STUDENT: A MOTIVATION-VALUE COMPONENT

Abstract

When introducing a competency-based approach to the content of the educational process, the problem of professional formation and self-development of future specialists acquires special significance. Professional development involves the formation of both professional knowledge, abilities and skills, as well as professionally significant personal qualities necessary for successful professional activity (initiative, ability to self-discovery, self-improvement and self-realization, self-development). Self-development, which includes value orientations, personal meanings (meaning), self-esteem, motivational and volitional components, goal-setting, reflection, begins with adolescence, but student age is the most sensitive period for professional and personal development. Therefore, studying at a specialized medical college is a kind of potential resource for further professional self-development of the individual, which is manifested in the desire to continue education, professional development within the framework of the specialty, mastering related professions, and personal improvement.

The article presents the results of the study of the process of formation of the motivational and value component of the professional self-development of the student's personality, conducted by the author in 2021 on the basis of the specialized medical college "Rivnen Medical Academy" of the Rivne Regional Council. It was determined that in the hierarchy of motives for choosing a profession, the most significant are the utilitarian motive ("the desire to get an education to help oneself and loved ones"), the moral motive ("to benefit people") and the social motive ("a noble profession"). The motive of "self-development and self-realization" is also key for students. In the hierarchy of values of obtaining an education and improving the level of education, students are placed first, which is manifested in the predominance of the value of self-development, professional abilities, the desire for realization and professional development. In the course of the research, it was found that the motivations for students' choice of profession are closely related to their value orientations. It has been proven that the formation of the professional self-development of the student's personality in the educational process of the college will be effective if it is considered as the result of professionally significant personal education of the future medical worker, which should be implemented in the educational process of the college by implementing appropriate pedagogical conditions.
