MODES OF COMMUNICATION IN THE CONTEXT OF DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL ENGLISH-LANGUAGE COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF PROSPECTIVE IT SPECIALISTS IN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES

Abstract

The formation of professional English-language communicative competence is a key strategic task of foreign language teachers at technical universities aimed at developing the ability to communicate effectively in a foreign language in professional realities. The article analyses the experience of scientists in developing professional English-language communicative competence; clarifies the essence of three modes of communication necessary for teaching (speaking, listening, reading, writing) prospective IT specialists; considers the specifics of interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication in English through the prism of activities and strategies for their operation in the IT sector. Interpersonal communication is implemented in the following activities of prospective IT specialists: consulting with a client; collaboration on project development; providing technical support; discussing the scope of the project with clients; analysing feedback and criticism; participation in workshops and professional development courses; conflict resolution, conference discussions, and interviews during recruitment. The appropriate strategies for interpersonal communication are identified. Interpretive communication is implemented in the following activities of prospective IT specialists: reading technical documentation, articles; analysing source (or malicious) code or algorithms or behaviour; interpreting data visualisations; watching training courses or webinars; reviewing reports, including error reports; learning new technologies or software updates; interpreting customer or user feedback; monitoring network traffic and audit logs; assessing vulnerabilities and reports. The appropriate strategies for interpretive communication are identified. Presentational communication is implemented in the following activities of prospective IT specialists: preparing technical presentations for stakeholders; explaining complex concepts to non-technical users; demonstrating new software or tools; preparing technical documentation and reports; conducting workshops or seminars; presenting updates or proposals to project management; recruiting. The appropriate strategies for presentational communication are identified.
