DEVELOPMENT OF LEADERSHIP COMPETENCE OF FUTURE NAVIGATION AND SHIP-OPERATION SPECIALISTS IN THE PROCESS OF STUDYING HUMANITIES-ORIENTED DISCIPLINES

Abstract

The article presents the results of a study aimed at theoretically and practically substantiating the development of leadership competence in future navigation and ship-operation specialists while studying humanities-oriented disciplines. The relevance of this topic is determined by modern global challenges in the maritime industry, which are associated with increasing requirements for the professional responsibility of ship officers, growing risks in crew activities, the need for effective interaction in the multicultural environment of international shipping, as well as the increasing attention to the human factor as the leading cause of accidents at sea. The author identifies the role of humanities-oriented disciplines in developing leadership qualities, as they provide educational opportunities for practicing interpersonal interaction skills, conflict resolution, professional ethics, empathy, and a reflective culture. The practical part of the study focuses on determining the content-related and methodological foundations of using humanities-oriented disciplines to strengthen the managerial potential of future ship officers. The article reveals the effectiveness of applying situational analysis of real maritime events, role-playing activities, team interaction training, public debates, group projects, and reflective techniques that create conditions for gaining practical leadership experience, awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses, and readiness to act under uncertainty. It is emphasized that increasing the role of humanities education contributes to the harmonious development of the future maritime officer, both as a competent specialist and as a responsible leader capable of ensuring maritime safety and safeguarding human life. The study concludes that the development of leadership competence in the system of professional education for future navigation and ship operation specialists must be carried out on the basis of systematicity, purposefulness, and the integration of the humanities component into professional training. The prospects for further research include the development of pedagogical conditions, diagnostic tools, and innovative educational technologies that will improve the effectiveness of preparing leaders for the maritime sector.
