DEVELOPMENT OF MEDIA EDUCATION IN THE LATE XX –THE BEGINING OF THE XXI CENTURY AS A PROBLEM OF PEDAGOGICAL THEORY AND PRACTICE: DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The article analyzes the state of research on the problem of media education in the late ХХ – the beginning of the ХХІ centuries in the works of domestic researchers. The information base of the research was a large number of scientific works presented on the official website of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. Achieving the goal of the article enabled to use general scientific methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, specification and generalization.

On the basis of the application of the problem-chronological criterion, interpretative works, in particular dissertations and monographs, articles in periodicals devoted to theoretical and practical aspects of media education are allocated and characterized. The scientific and theoretical analysis of the pedagogical sources of media education development in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries made it possible to distinguish the following groups of publications: basic approaches to the interpretation of the concepts of "media education", "media literacy"; retrospective of the formation of media education in Ukraine and abroad; Development of media culture future teachers and students; formation of media competence, media information literacy in the context of training future teachers; educational opportunities for media education; preparing future teachers for the use of media in teaching. It is substantiated that the results of media education are media competence, multi-literacy (covers media literacy, digital, informational, media-digital, technological, functional literacy) and media culture. A promising direction for further research includes the features of media education and media pedagogy in Ukrainian and Polish universities in historical and pedagogical retrospective.
