Abstract

The article deals with the problem of creating fakes (distortion of information, disinformation, filtering of information, etc.). The fake spread is a form of negative impact on the consciousness of an ordinary member of society. Therefore, the detection of fake messages, the sources of which are the Internet and social networks, is an urgent problem for society as a whole. The paper's goals: to detail the types, signs, and ways of detecting fake content.  The authors use theoretical methods of scientific knowledge to achieve the goal: terminological analysis to clarify the research thesaurus, content analysis, and classification to identify the types of the most common fakes, their recognition, and ways to avoid them. The paper presents the types of information distortion (false information, deliberately distorted or inaccurate, and "bad" information (mal-information)). The types, signs, and ways of detecting fakes are characterized. The goals pursued by developers of fake content are noted (deliberate misinformation of users about any facts of events; formation of users' "necessary" idea of certain things, events, and processes; outright insult of certain persons; agitation; trolling; advertising of a specific product; personal motives). The characteristic features of fake news (content that links only to the main page of the cited site; in the results search only social networks; the source is a link to an English-language publication; a link to a specific post is not given; someone quotes someone's statements that sounded on radio/television). The recognition methods and ways for avoiding fake content in social networks are described. The paper's results make it possible for young people to identify fake content and contribute to developing their ability to resist negative information influences.
